Thirteen years old. First news. Akruti.
In 2007, Shubham was thirteen. His first news was not typed in a cloud editor. It was composed in Akruti — the Marathi DTP world of that time: fonts, keyboard maps, the patience of letter-by-letter layout. That is where the industry started for him. Not as a visitor. As someone already inside the machine.
From there the craft widened the way a real newspaper desk widens: Shree Lipi pagination, page design, then software itself. Composing. Fitting. Rewriting a heading so it sits. Knowing why a column overflows. Knowing what the press will actually print. Design was never decoration. Software was never a hobby on the side. Both were the same job: get the paper out.
A family newspaper — then the whole desk
This is a family newspaper business. Shubham grew up in it. By 2011 he was already working at full potential — not “helping after school,” but carrying real pagination, design, and production the way a professional desk does.
In 2018 his father died of a cardiac arrest. Overnight, the paper’s responsibility was his. There was no handover workshop. There was a deadline, a press, and people waiting for the next issue.
He could take it because the experience was already there. Years of Akruti and Shree Lipi, of design and development, of sitting with the page until it was honest. He did not inherit a title and learn later. He had already been doing the work. So he did all of it — news, layout, production, the unglamorous last mile that readers never see and a newspaper cannot skip.
A new-generation desk, built by someone who lived the old one
The old tools taught him everything. They also showed him the tax: hours lost to software, to file-shuttling, to pagination that only one person in the office could finish. A new generation’s mindset is not “throw the press away.” It is: keep the print standard, kill the friction.
That is what he designed. AI for the writing desk. Future-facing tech for the production desk. A workflow where heading, matter, boxes, and pages move as one system — not ten disconnected files. WebDTP is that workflow in the browser: titles, issues, templates (including InDesign IDML), AI writing help, and print-oriented PDF. Marathi, Hindi, English. Built so an editor spends time on news, not on wrestling the tool.
